The Wolf Rock Boat Company is based in the beautiful South Hams, the heart of South Devon.
It has been 40 years in the making, ever since founder Paul McCarthy, as a toddler, spent his Summer holidays playing in boats on the River Avon at Bantham. Back in the 60's his father,Richard, was one of the first people to water ski on the Avon and was a founder member of the Aune Valley Ski Club. In the 60's he competed in and completed the very first Cross Channel WaterSki Race from Varne in Kent to Calais, and back again.
Paul learnt to ski at 6 years of age, could mono ski by 10 and competed in his first water ski race at the age of 11. For the next twelve years he competed Nationally and Internationally at the highest level, skiing at speeds of up to 100 mph. In 1987 he skied from Salcombe to St Peters Port in Guernsey, raising several thousands pounds for the RNLI and Cancer Research, covering the 80 plus miles in under two hours.
Paul competed in Australia, Italy, Belguim, France, as well as all over the British Isles through to the late 80's, before having to find a job.
In 1992 he moved to London to join Channel 4 Television and stopped competing but he regularly travelled back to South Devon to spend weekends boating and water skiing. In 2007 Paul moved backto Bantham to establish The Wolf Rock Boat Company.
The experience of living and working in London has taught Paul how precious time is to people who have a heavy work load. When time is precious you just want to be able to get in your boat andturn the key, not spend time with your head under the engine cover.
Paul is not only passionate about boats but the whole process of getting it right before you buy.
Do you know what you want to do with it? Where are you going to keep it? How many people are going to use it?
You will always have more friends when you have a boat!
It's got to be as stress free as possible, so many boats don't get used because they are too big and too much hassle.
Remember to always check the weather and tides before you go boating, have a VHF radio, life jackets flares and a first aid kit.
